The Gurgl ski area comprises two independent ski mountains: Obergurgl and Hochgurgl, both are the same size with around 56 slope kilometers each. The two areas are linked by the Top Express gondola, a 3.6 km panoramic ride that crosses the scenic Königstal and Ferwalltal valleys in just nine minutes.
Beginners: Obergurgl is an excellent destination for beginners with its highly rated ski school, central beginner's area and easily accessible nursery areas like the one near the Festkogel lift.
Intermediates: For intermediates, Gurgl offers a dream landscape with its long, cruisy blue and red runs that sprawl across the mountain. The areas served by the Festkogel and Hohe Mut gondolas provide not only wide-open runs but also breathtaking mountaintop views, making every descent a memorable experience.
Advanced: Advanced skiers can enjoy the challenge of some steep and exhilarating black runs and off-piste opportunities.
Off-piste: The off-piste potential in Obergurgl is significant, especially in the nearby Hochgurgl area, where freeriders can explore extensive powder fields. Known for its pristine conditions, the resort offers adventurous routes such as those from the top of Wurmkogl.
Snowboarding: Snowboarders will find Obergurgl accommodating due to the absence of drag lifts and the presence of wide pistes ideal for carving.
From all ski resorts in Austria, Gurgl is a top choice for family ski holidays, known for its convenience and child-friendly atmosphere. The compact village layout means most accommodations are just a short walk from the ski lifts and ski school, making it easy to get on the slopes and maximise your day. The resort features a range of family-focused areas, including a dedicated learning zone with gentle slopes and beginner-friendly lifts, ideal for building confidence in a fun and safe setting. At Obergurgl’s Fun Mountain and Hochgurgl’s Fun Slope, both kids and adults can sharpen their skills on playful jumps and obstacles. Off the pistes, winter playgrounds provide a welcome change of pace and plenty of snowy fun.
Snow activities: Snow shoeing, winter hiking, tobogganing, cross-country skiing, outdoor ice skating, night skiing & tobogganing
Non-skiing activities: Wine tasting, Gourmet Gondola, Top Mountain Motorcycle Experience, Obergurgl Stone Pine Forest
Culinary experiences in Obergurgl-Hochgurgl blend alpine tradition with refined cuisine. Most restaurants are hotel-based, especially in Obergurgl, where half-board stays are common, and menus feature hearty Tyrolean classics, fondue, and Italian favourites like pizza and pasta. Hochgurgl shines on the mountain with a stronger range of slope-side dining, offering creative dishes made from regional ingredients in scenic alpine settings.
Après-ski in Obergurgl-Hochgurgl is generally laid back, with most bars centred around hotels. In Obergurgl, you'll find a fun but low-key atmosphere in the village, while mountain bars offer livelier moments, complete with table dancing and steins of beer. Hochgurgl is much quieter by comparison, with evenings typically spent unwinding over a drink or relaxing at your accommodation. For those seeking a bit of après buzz, a handful of options are available, but the overall vibe remains relaxed and refined.

I usually book flights, transfers, hotel, ski rental and lift passes myself but this year used WeSki for a trip to Morzine. It was so much easier. Everything worked perfectly - transfers arrived on time and there was plenty of feedback throughout the whole process giving you confidence the holiday would go smoothly.
A really useful service that is so much easier to use than other 'all-inclusive' sites. It nicely bridges the gap between a travel agent and booking the trip yourself online. I will use WeSki every time I go skiing from now on.
We booked a late minute skiing trip to Morzine through we ski. We looked at booking the trip ourselves but could get anywhere near the price quoted by we ski. The company was excellent and we had no problems at all from start to finish. I would definitely use them to book another weekend skiing trip.
Seamless experience from start to finish. I was spending ages trying to sort out a weekend break and managed to do it with we ski in minutes and for the same price as booking it all up yourself. Flight, transfer and accommodation was all as expected and faultless.
